    about

    rupert goldsworthy is a british artist and writer who also runs a small independent roving curatorial space.

    goldsworthy completed an undergraduate degree in painting at north staffs poly, england in 1985. he then completed a masters in studio art at new york university in 1992, studying under felix gonzalez-torres. in the early 1990s whilst studying at nyu, he worked for various new york art dealers including barbara gladstone and brent sikkema. he also began to exhibit and curate shows at various spaces in new york.

    in 1995 goldsworthy moved to berlin and opened an artist-run gallery in a storefront at brunnenstrasse 44, berlin-mitte. conceived as a finite, two-year curatorial project, it featured sixteen exhibitions focussing on emerging and mid-career artists and neo-conceptual practice. in october 1996 goldsworthy organized the alternative art fair “berlin mitte 96” . the fair was located in an empty department store on sophienstrasse and featured sixteen international galleries.

    in 1998 goldsworthy moved the gallery to chelsea, new york city as a five-year project. the gallery was located in a small second-floor space at 453 west seventeenth street. from 1998 to 2002 he curated twenty-three exhibitions at this location and the gallery participated a number of times in the gramercy art fair, nyc.

    in 2003, 2004 and 2006 goldsworthy curated exhibitions at Ritter/Zamet Gallery in London and New York.

    in 2008 goldsworthy completed a PhD in art education/visual culture at nyu, studying under robert storr. in 2010 his dissertation was published by VDM Verlag as the book "CONSUMING//TERROR: Images of the Baader-Meinhof". goldsworthy has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at new york university, pratt institute and guest lectured at sotheby's, iscp, utkn, unlv, and other universities and institutions.

    from 2009-10 goldsworthy re-opened his curatorial project in berlin at alexandrinenstrasse 4, in berlin-kreuzberg. the one-year project featured eight exhibitions and several performance events at this space.

    the project is currently relocating to new york. three upcoming exhibitions are already in preparation.
